Complete with double glazing, UPVC windows and doors and with the option of under floor heating, a static caravan home is something to wonder at!  I’m not suggesting you sell up, jump into your car and head for the hills having massively downsized your possessions, but for around £1,849 – all in – it’s a thought.   [Read more...]

Where To Get Warm This Winter

Some people love the winter, the chilly winds, the icy windows and the dark evenings in… however the arrival of these things means just one thing – it’s time to start seeking out some sun!

Winter holidays are a great way to boost the spirits and recharge the batteries and there are a wide range of winter sun holidays available with something on offer to suit all styles.

Best Winter Holiday Destinations

The winter sun market has grown over the last few decades offering holidaymakers a massive choice of destinations across the globe. Whatever your requirements, from reasonable travel time to secluded sun bathing opportunities – there will be a resort out there to fit your needs. Some popular places for winter sun holidays include:

  • The Canary Islands – this popular summer holiday spot is a great choice for those looking for a little off season sunshine. Despite being a Spanish destination, the Canaries are closer to Africa and as such enjoy a temperate climate throughout the year. Choose from a classic beach break in Tenerife, the family friendly Lanzarote or head for Fuerteventura – where activities abound.
  • Florida – another family favourite, Florida is a great winter destination offering a sub tropical climate, great attractions and warm local hospitality. Consider booking cheap flights and coupling this with independent accommodation bookings and cheap car rental for a bargain break. Check out the great beaches or head for the world famous theme parks – the choice is yours.
  • Egypt – this North African destination caters for the tourism trade throughout the year and offers a number of great winter sun packages. Choose relaxing beach breaks in resorts such as Sharm el Sheikh or opt for a more active approach with the many watersports on offer in the area.
  • Caribbean – the islands of the Caribbean are a popular choice with winter sun seekers from across the globe. Laid back local life and guaranteed warm weather make this a great place to get away from it all off season.
  • Goa – the Indian coastal region of Goa is a great option for those looking for a little luxury on a budget. Goan resorts are very reasonable, and the beaches in the area are sublime, as is the local cuisine.
  • Morocco – if you fancy boarding the Marrakech Express, then winter is a great time to do it. Enjoy the local art and architecture, soak up the atmosphere at the souk and enjoy a rich experience under the North African sun.

Winter Holiday Warnings

As with all travel, winter sun holidays do carry some risks. Be aware that certain resorts operate at a lesser capacity during the off season and some facilities closed. In some areas, weather phenomenons such as monsoons and tropical storms can be an issue – so check information with your travel provider before departure.

If you are planning to leave your home in the colder months make sure that you won’t come home to problems – seek advice on how to prevent burst pipes and other cold weather problems before heading off to avoid a nasty surprise on your return.

Choosing Your Holiday Destination

Choosing your destination might seem like one of the most obvious parts of planning your holiday, but it is often something which isn’t considered quite as carefully as it should be. In order to get the most from your holiday experience, there are a number of points which you might want to bear in mind when you think about exactly where you want to travel to.

Firstly, you should consider the length of your trip. If your budget or employment commitments mean that you only have enough time for a short break, then you’re better of avoiding destinations where there is a huge amount for visitors to see and do. You’re unlikely to have enough time to experience everything that you want to, and so may end up making a return trip at a later date. Instead, you should choose to visit somewhere where you are able to fully immerse yourself in the local culture within a short period of time, so that you won’t feel like you have missed out on too much of what that area has to offer.

You should also think about exactly what you want from your trip. This can be very different for different people, depending on their personal circumstances, tastes and preferences. For example, if you are after a luxurious break from the daily grind, where you will be able to indulge in spa treatments, enjoy fine dining and play games of party poker via a hotel’s WiFi, then you won’t want to book a trip which involves backpacking across the desert. Don’t choose a destination simply because it is popular, or similarly, because it is unusual.

Lastly, unless you are travelling solo, don’t forget to take into account the preferences of those who are holidaying with you! You’ll want to make sure that your destination is a good choice for all members of your party, and take this into account when booking your trip.
